Why Zoé Writes Theatre

Hello world! I’m Zoé (they/them), an almost 33 year old recovering theatre kid. By which I mean I’m a theatre adult. I have been in theatre since I was 5 years old, and have explored and lived all areas of theatre. I grew up acting, wrote a one woman play in high school, and learned later on in life that I much prefer stage managing and/or being up in the booth. I have worked front of house, done dramaturgy, and braved the cat walk a time or two. Right now, I work with a youth ensemble at a local theatre.

My full time job is in health food grocery, which means I’m not necessarily doing as much time at a theatre. However, I have learned that there are many ways to love theatre, and that’s how this blog was born. There’s going to be a lot of fun stuff going on here! Theatre is an endless topic, and even if I can’t be there as much as I want to, I can still write about all the things I love. From straight plays to musical theatre, I just want to put my love of theatre into words and share it with the world.

So I’m writing theatre for me, and I’m writing theatre for you. One of the things I love most about theatre is how universal it is. And whether I’m writing about a specific topic or something more abstract, I hope all my readers can find something in my words. Because that’s what theatre is meant to do. There’s a reason it’s been an art form for thousands of years.

I am including a picture in this post. It is of me in Caesaria, Israel. It’s ancient Roman city ruins, with a giant open air theatre. When I was there, I felt myself crying, and I knew I had been there before in a past life. I had performed there, and it was like coming home. That is what theatre is at its very roots.
