2025 In Review

Happy almost 2026! This year has been quite a year for me, and for Zoe Writes Theatre.  I celebrated my three years running this blog, and my little baby project just keeps growing and growing.  Since we’re mere days away from the new year, I wanted to do a sort of year in review.  2025 was definitely very good to me, and I really can’t wait to see what 2026 brings me.  At this point, it can only go up from here!  So here is me, Zoe, reflecting on the past year.  I hope you g

I've Been to the Mountaintop

There are so many ways a play can be good.  There are so many ways a play can be great.  And it really just goes on from there.  I’ve seen a lot of good plays, and great plays, and plays that completely blow me out of the water.  The Mountaintop  was in a category that I don’t get to see all the time…it completely took my breath away.  Although the idea and setup were pretty simple, it was something that I haven’t seen in awhile, and I’m sure it’ll be awhile before I get to s

Would You Want to Wrinkle?

There are lots of stories that are passed down from generation to generation.  These stories can present themselves in many ways.  One of these ways is from books.  Books are extremely important to sharing stories, especially the ones that transcend time.  One of these stories that has been passed down in book form is A Wrinkle in Time .  Published in 1962, this book has been read by millions…it’s been taught in schools, has been banned, has been adapted into so many forms, i

A Nutty Take On A Classic

The holiday time is always a great time for theatre.  We get a lot of cool stuff this time of year, whether it’s the traditional shows like A Christmas Carol  or something different like A Christmas Carol Comedy  (covered by me twice!)  I started this blog around the holiday time (it will be exactly three years ago tomorrow!).  There’s just so much cool stuff out there.  I love that a lot of it is family friendly, or themed to the time of year, or even traditions found in oth

Artist Spotlight: Arianna Gayle

There are some roles where you can’t picture any actor playing them other than the one you saw.  This is completely how I felt about Arianna Gayle in Job .  A show this intense calls for an actor that’s going to be able to fill those shoes.  Gayle really captured a role that could not  have been easy, and she did it so realistically and beautifully.  I loved watching every moment she brought to that stage. Something insanely interesting to me is how I perceived Gayle in this

Artist Spotlight: Alice Yorke & Campbell O’Hare

I know Walden was some time ago, but I have some wonderful interviews from it that I want to put up!  Alice Yorke and Campbell O’Hare did an amazing job as twin sisters Stella and Cassie, and they had a lot of interesting things to say about the show, what they did, and the characters they played.  I really feel like they provided great insight to a very beautiful and intense show. Walden  was such an intimate play, with only three actors in the cast.  Seeing these two women

Therapy 101

We live in a very “tuned in” world.  All generations are spending so much time on their phones, on the internet…we’re constantly texting each other, or watching videos.  I think we probably spend just as much time on our screens as we spend in real time.  This idea is only the start of Job , even if we don’t know that right away.  What we do  know from the start is that a young woman is pointing a gun at an older man and that makes it pretty obvious that we’re going to be in

Looking Into the Future

We live in some really weird times.  The other day, my coworker was talking about some movie from the 70s or 80s that took place in the 20-10s, and there were flying cars.  In many ways, we are living in the “future”.  The thing we have to remember, though, is that there’s still future from here.  Walden  was a reminder of that…it was a play that really showed what the future from here  could look like.  And it was both captivating and terrifying.  Because the future means so

Sinatra Would Be Proud

We are currently living in some crazy  times, in all ways.  I think that’s pretty much certain.  But sometimes, we need to see some of the more comic crazy times…it lightens the mood a little and provides some perspective.  Fly Me To The Moon  at Hedgerow Theatre did just that.  The whole thing was so crazy, so absolutely absurd, and it was definitely just what I needed.  From the very start, the comedy that this play provided us was absolutely amazing.  And as the show progr
